Ides of Milk Quest Guide (OSRS)

The Ides of Milk is a brand new free-to-play quest in Old School RuneScape that unlocks the repeatable Cow Boss, Brutus. It’s a short, cow-themed quest set entirely around Lumbridge with no skill or item requirements, making it one of the most beginner-friendly quests in the game.

• Start point: Speak to Cassius by the Lumbridge pond, just south of the windmill
• Requirements: None
• Items required: None
• Recommended: Around Combat level 15 to handle the boss comfortably
• Enemies to defeat: Brutus, a level 30 bull

• 1 Quest point
• Cowbell amulet (teleports you to the Lumbridge cow pen)
• Access to repeatable Brutus boss fights
• A 1,000 XP lamp usable on any combat skill, including Prayer

The entire quest takes place around Lumbridge.

1. Cassius + Quest Start
2. Seth Groats
3. Gillie Groats
4. Duke Horacio
5. Cow Boss (Brutus)

1. Speak with Cassius by the Lumbridge pond, just south of the windmill, to start the quest. He pitches you a partnership in his milk business and asks you to find out how the Groats family keeps their cows so productive.
2. Head over the nearby bridge across the River Lum to find Seth Groats.

Talk to Seth Groats and Read the Book

1. Speak with Seth Groats in the house by the chicken coop.
2. Search the bookshelf on the southern wall and read his book, The Groats Principles.

Visit Gillie Groats in the Cow Pen

1. Head to the Lumbridge cow pen.
2. Speak with Gillie Groats, just north of the gate. She’ll tell you that happy cows make better milk.

Return to Cassius With the Book

1. Go back to Cassius and hand over the book.
2. He’ll give you a milk sample to drink (it deals 1 harmless damage), then speak with him again. He’ll hand you a second sample for Duke Horacio.

Try to Get a Permit From Duke Horacio

1. Go upstairs in Lumbridge Castle.
2. Speak with Duke Horacio to request a permit.
3. He refuses to get involved without the Groats’ approval and sends you back to Gillie.

Get the Permit From Gillie

1. Return to Gillie Groats in the cow pen.
2. She’ll have you drink the other milk sample (no damage this time).
3. Agree to help by dealing with the aggressive bull bothering her herd. Head to the gate to the north-east and prepare to fight.

Defeat Brutus (Level 30)

1. Fight Brutus, the Cow Boss. He’s level 30 and attacks with melee.
2. His special attacks can still kill you, so watch his head: when he *snorts* he slams the ground around you, and when he *growls* he charges. Move a couple of tiles away to dodge either one.
3. Defeat Brutus to continue. (The fight is in an instance. If you die, your items go to a grave outside.)

Finish the Quest

1. After the fight, speak with Gillie Groats again.
2. Return to Cassius to finish the quest and learn what he was really up to.

Claim Your Rewards

1. Head back to Gillie Groats to claim your rewards.
2. You’ll receive a Cowbell amulet (teleports you to the Lumbridge cow pen), access to fighting Brutus, and a 1,000 XP lamp usable on any combat skill, including Prayer.
