Gemstone Crab Guide – Best AFK Combat XP in OSRS (2026)

The Gemstone Crab is a unique AFK combat training boss introduced in the final part of the Varlamore expansion. It moves between three cave-connected mines in the Tlati Rainforest every 10 minutes and has no health bar or defensive stats. Effectively immortal, it’s ideal for all combat levels looking for chill, uninterrupted experience gain. No crashing, no downtime — just 10-minute chunks of combat XP.

• Completion of Children of the Sun quest (quick 10-minute quest in Varrock)

The Gemstone Crab rotates between three possible spawn locations in the Tlati Rainforest. If the crab is not in the location you go to, simply crawl into the cave and you will be taken to the current location.

Getting to the Gemstone Crab

Option 1

The fastest way to get there is by using the Quetzal System (which requires the quest Twilight’s Promise). Take the Quetzal from Civitas illa Fortis to Tal Teklan, which is the furthest left location on the map. You do NOT need to build a landing site as one is already there.

Option 2

If you haven’t done Twilight’s Promise (you probably should just do the quest) and still want to do some crabbing, you’ll need to run from Civitas illa Fortis and then take a boat to Tal Teklan. Once you get there, the nearest Gemstone Crab location is just north of the boat.

1. Travel to one of the three mines or check the caves to locate the current spawn
2. Click the Gemstone Crab to begin combat — that’s it
3. Stay in combat for 10 full minutes with no interaction required
4. When the timer ends, the crab burrows and relocates — re-enter a cave to follow it
5. Repeat for endless AFK XP
